About May Crowning
May Crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual held during the month of May. At the close of a solemn procession, a statue of the Blessed Virgin is crowned with a garland or crown of flowers honoring Mary as “The Queen of May.” The queen symbol is attributed to Mary because she was a perfect follower of Christ. She is the Mother of the Son of God, who is the Messianic King. The May Crowning gives the faithful, and in a special way, children, an opportunity to honor the Blessed Mother of Jesus and to give thanks to her for bringing our Savior into the world.
